Adelai is torn between grief and ambition when she is named heir to Calantha. But when the Stewards, enforcers of the Commonpeace Alliance, discover Adelai secretly possesses violent kinetic powers, they foretell she will bring war to the six realms and death to the Eternal King. The Stewards take Adelai to their cloister where she must submit to their training and change her future, or face execution. When the Eternal King takes an interest in her training, she begins to suspect he would welcome the release of death at her hands.

Wint, the Crown Prince of Arvenelle, and Adelai have guarded their love affair for years. When she is taken, he forsakes his royal duties to join a seditious underground organisation which can aid in her rescue.

Wint wants to be a hero, but must decide how much treason he will commit for love. And Adelai’s gift may help her reclaim her inheritance, but she fears unleashing her powers will make her the true villain.
